Call to order/introductions: The meeting was called to order at 2:07 pm.  Attendees introduced themselves.

President’s Remarks:  Sponsor needed for Historic Highway “101” Morena Blvd. project. Contact Dave Potter-619-507-1415.

Approval of November 2016 Minutes:  Minutes were approved unanimously.

Treasurer’s Report:  Grant Project expenses are pre-funded by the MBA then expenses are submitted for reimbursement from allocated Grant funds.  Grant funds of $10K will be used before June 2017 for MBA Mobile App promotion ($8K) and new Street Banners ($2K).

 

Old/New Business:

A.      2017 “Taste of Morena” event to be held on Wednesday, April 26th

B.      MBA Mobile APP (featured business videos) December 2016/“City Lights”, February 2017/“Sardina’s Restaurant”

C.      New Banner design to promote MBA Mobile App & Taste of Morena event

1.       Clairemont Mesa Community Plan Update – Overview of schedule and Community engagement plan for the comprehensive plan update.

2.       Status updates for the Morena Corridor Specific Plan-review of roadway recommendations, potential areas of change and key design guidelines.

Treasurer’s Report: Bank Balance is $14,215.27; roughly $1,545 higher than last year.  $6,000 of $10K 2016 grant was received; Taste of Morena profit was $5,200. Submitted $10K Grant application for 2017; $3K for Banner replacement, $7K for Mobile APP Promotion.

 

Old/New Business:

A.        MBA website update-developing Instructions on how to add your Business to the MBA website & email notices to be sent on Facebook

B.        MBA Mobile APP promotion update-35 downloads last month, showcase Businesses via interviews & highlight local Businesses via videos

C.        MBA Mixer TBD for July 20th, 5:30pm to 7:30pm

 

Business Community Commentary:

 

A.        Janet Poutre, Clairemont Community News-suggested the MBA offer a workshop on how to list your Business on the MBA website “Business Directory” section.

B.        Tom Cleary, USD Senior Director Community & Gov’t Relations- USD Commencement ceremonies to take place the 3rd weekend in May.  At USD, the City of San Diego is replacing underground water lines; construction is ongoing through the summer.

C.            MBA Mobile APP promotion update-320 downloads, 2200 visitors to APP since March 2016, 400 visitors to local Business coupon section, showcase Business interviews & highlight local Businesses via videos, suggested use of drone work to create video of Morena District

D.            2016 MBA March 16th Mixer results-Poseidon Project, 15-20 attendees

E.            2016 MBA April 13th “Taste of Morena”-509 tickets sold for $12,725 plus Sponsorship of $400 from Morena Storage

 

 

Business Community Commentary:

A.            Natalia Mendez, Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon on June 5th, 2016 – Course redesign & adjusted road closure times 6am to noon.  One lane access going North from Napa to Tecolote; Southbound lane access on Morena will be open. Runners Perk Campaign created to offer the Community & local Businesses the opportunity to promote their business to over 30,000 runners

B.            Hank Zapisek, Financial Network Investment, MBA Treasurer-suggestion for Community Business outreach to arriving USD students

C.            Tom Cleary, USD Senior Director Community & Gov’t Relations-suggestion for MBA to promote local Businesses via USD’s weekly student newspaper ‘The VIST!”

Treasurer’s Report: Bank account is low; the Taste of Morena will be pre-funded and expenses reimbursed when grant funds and the Taste of Morena proceeds are received. BID Council approved 2015/2016 $3,500 grant funds for new MBA Banners & Mobile App; costs will need to be spent by June 2016.

A.            MBA website-UPG Marketing Group revised proposal for Website maintenance

B.            MBA APP-UPG Mobile Marketing Group working on promotion campaign to highlight a local business each month, a mobile APP video, offer business coupons via mobile APP and design window stickers with QRcode

C.            2016 Morena District Street Banners to be replaced before June

D.            2016 MBA Mixer, March 16th, 5:30-7:30pm to be held at Poseidon Project-4126 Napier St.

E.            2016 Taste of Morena, April 13th 5-9pm-USD donated use of their Trolley

Treasurer’s Report: $12,613 bank balance as of 12/31/2015. 2015 MBA revenue increased by 38.1% and expenses increased by 21.5%. Grant application for 2016 is $10K. Taste of Morena will be pre-funded and expenses reimbursed when grant funds are received. BID Council approved 2015/2016 Grant funds for new MBA Banners & Mobile App costs. Funds need to be spent by June 2016.  MBA is compliant with tax Filing 990.

 

Old/New Business:

A.        MBA “Holiday” Mixer, December 16th-sponsored by US Bank with a $500 donation

B.        MBA website is up & running; emails will be sent to the Morena District Businesses

C.        MBA APP promotion campaign to monthly highlight a local Business is still in progress

D.        2016 Morena District Street Banner Community Photo Shoot is scheduled for February 18th

E.         2016 MBA Monthly Meeting/Mixer proposed schedule-see MBA website for listing

F.         2016 Taste of Morena is Wednesday, April 13th, 5-9:30pm. Suggestions made for on-line registration with an option to donate to a local charity.
