MBA Sponsors Tree Planting in Morena Business District

Have you noticed the twelve new trees dressing up Ashton Street and Chicago Street? One new tree graces the sidewalk in front of Sonny’s Hair Loft on Chicago Street. Seven trees were planted in the sidewalks on Chicago Street and Ashton Street alongside Seisels Old Fashioned Meat and Deli and their parking lot. One tree is planted in front of Bay Park Fish Company, and one tree is planted in front of Juanita Franco’s Spanish Dance Studio. One tree is planted in front of Renzulli's Jewelry, and one tree is planted in front of the beautifully remodeled Wenthur Law Group building next to the Fire Station.
The Morena Business Association was instrumental in making this happen. This tree planting is the first of three tree plantings that are planned for the Morena area. The plantings are a collaborative project of area merchants, the Morena Business Association, Donna Frye’s office, the City of San Diego, and the BID Council. The trees and labor were part of a Department of Forestry grant to the BID Council. The city assisted with the concrete cuts, and the Morena Business Association has identified locations and pledged maintenance.
A formal tree planting ceremony and photo opportunity was held on December 7, 2006. Guests included:
